Our animals are basically grassfed. We do give minerals since the soil can be low or depleted of some of the nutrients needed for good health and growth. A handful of grain is a treat and helps to get the animals used to being around people.
Beaver Hills Farms are a small, independant farmer-owned operation consisting of several pieces of pasture land. Each pasture is generally a herd containing breeding cows, heifers old enough for breeding, several steers, and a herd sire. We keep spare bulls in their own herd for future use and for sale.
Environment & Sustainability
We cut, bale, and store all of our own feed as the only sure way that we know exactly what our animals are consuming. This hay operation takes all summer, and often parts of spring and fall. We very carefully eliminate noxious weeds from harvest, and are always improving our grass with overseeding of quality forage grasses.
Beaver Hills Farms promotes vibrant and healthy local food. We are firmly committed to humane farming including harvesting on-site. There is no long-haul transport, no feedlot, no factory slaughter house, no artificial growth enhancers and no antibiotics. This is as close to the old-time, healthy, local food supply as you can find in today's marketplace.
At one time in history, the Irish Dexter breed was a rare thing but they have since gained a reputation as a premier small-farm animal. They can be very high quality milk producers along with being extremely lean and tasty beef. And to top if off, they generally are friendly and fun to be around!
