Beaver Hills Farms is a small, independent farmer-owned operation consisting of several separate pastures and hay fields.

About Beaver Hills Farms

Each pasture has a small herd of Irish Dexter cattle. We keep spare bulls for future use and sale.

Our Farm

We grow, cut, bale and store virtually all of our feed. This hay operation takes all summer, and often parts of spring and fall. We very carefully eliminate noxious weeds from harvest. We are always improving our grass with over-seeding of quality forage grasses.

Animal Nutrition

Our animals are grass-fed. We do give minerals because the soil can be low or depleted of some of the nutrients needed for good health and growth. A handful of grain is a treat and helps to get the animals used to being around people.

Environment and Sustainability

Beaver Hills Farms promotes vibrant and healthy local food. We are firmly committed to humane farming including harvesting on-site. There is no long-haul transport, no feedlot, no factory slaughter house, no artificial growth enhancers, and no antibiotics. This is as close to the old-time, healthy, local food supply as you can find in today's marketplace.

Dual-Purpose Dexters

At one time in history, the Irish Dexter heritage breed was a rare thing. They have since gained a reputation as a premier small-farm animal. They are high quality milk producers in which the A2 gene, highly sought by lactose-intolerant people, is prevalent. They also have extremely lean and flavorable meat. And to top if off, they generally are friendly and fun to be around!
